Quantum engineering draws together expertise across a wide range of areas, from computer science to physics, mathematics, and even philosophy. I will give an accessible introduction to the challenges we face - here in Grenoble at the Quantum Engineering project, and in projects worldwide - in designing, building, error correcting, and programming a working quantum computer. In particular I will look at how the new field of quantum engineering integrates with existing areas of study, both in using previous knowledge and in giving a new arena in which to understand concepts and methods from other fields.
